Riverside City College hosted a Cybersecurity Day event on May 23, 2025, bringing together students, families, business owners, and cybersecurity professionals for a dynamic and engaging day of cyber awareness and learning. Sponsored by IEGO and SynED, the event featured two tailored sessions aimed at strengthening cyber resilience across our community.

The morning and afternoon sessions focused on students—especially high school seniors, dual-enrollment participants, and community college students exploring career pathways in information technology and cybersecurity. Guest speaker Connar McCasland, from the University of West Florida’s Center for Cybersecurity, led a career-readiness workshop offering guidance on certifications, career options, and job strategies. Students also participated in an interactive “CTF Throw Down” Capture the Flag competition, met mentors, and explored RCC’s cybersecurity programs and apprenticeships. The day included networking opportunities and a free lunch to support student engagement.

In the evening, the event shifted focus to the local business community with a Business Cyber Risk Awareness Meetup. The session included a networking mixer and keynote address by McCasland titled “Click Happens: Cyber Awareness for Everyday Businesses.” The talk offered practical strategies for small to mid-sized businesses to defend against cyber threats such as ransomware and phishing. An open Q&A session allowed attendees to engage directly with cyber experts and explore RCC resources available to support local business security needs. Cybersecurity Day @ RCC served as a unique bridge between education and industry, empowering attendees of all ages and backgrounds to strengthen their cyber knowledge and networks.
